Places to Stay UK Delightful Feversham Arms.
We all feel the need to escape from time to time, when you feel the need to relax, unwind or just spoil yourself. Well 24seven have searched nearby spa retreats and found a truly unique hideaway that is just over an hour away near Malton, it will not only recharge your batteries, but will blow you away with its pure luxury approach to every experience it offers.
The Feversham Arms nationally acclaimed restaurant, luxury hotel and award winning spa is a hidden North Yorkshire gem, waiting to be discovered by all who love to be pampered! 24 Seven was very lucky to have visited The Feversham Arms; so to say ‘it has it all’ is not an overstatement. Even the drive there, as it takes you right through the grounds of Castle Howard, is as grand as the destination. Often described as a ‘country chic’ hotel, this remarkable little place knows how to overwhelm the senses.
Formerly a coaching inn, each owner of the Feversham throughout history has left their own stamp on its personality, the main building & spa could be described as a ‘country house’ yet new parts of the building offer more ‘boutique hotel’ feel. Either way what must be said is that both the interior and exterior has been maintained impeccably, offering a stunning setting for the perfect getaway. Here traditional values are mixed with Yorkshire common sense, throw in state of the art technology and you have The Feversham Arms, arguably one of the best retreats in the UK.
Let’s start with the accommodation…
If you enjoy a touch of luxury then look no further. Every room is complemented by stunning decor, a bathroom fit for royalty (in fact The Feversham Arms is a known destination for the Royals), scented candles & Temple Spa toiletries (believe me these are amongst the best available) and the icing on the cake – state of the art Bang & Olufsen entertainment systems in every room, including speakers in the bathroom and indulgently deep baths! Free room service for breakfast is also standard in this hotel.

The Feversham Arms boasts the award winning Verbena spa within its grounds, very deserving of its multiple awards, it offers a great mix of luxury facilities, including outdoor heated pool, with loungers to relax on and a hot tub, heat therapy room, ice cave and salt inhalation room on top of all the usual facilities you would expect at a specialist spa (Sauna, Steam Room, Foot Spa etc). One of our personal favourites was the Mud Rasul which is great for couples treatments.
The Verbena Spa relaxation lounge is defined by plump cushions, sofas you sink into and views across the south facing terrace garden. The spa houses 6 single treatment rooms and one couples room, in which guests can experience a tandem therapy, perfect for couples or ladies who like to have a chat whilst they’re pampered. Treatments are provided by Temple Spa, a uniquely British brand inspired by Mediterranean healthy diet and lifestyle. Temple Spa believes in anti-ageing and results orientated skincare, that’s not about “hope in a bottle” but offering divine products and treatments directed at busy, stressed people. The spa also has an extensive Heat experience including a monsoon shower. In addition, you can relax in the heated outdoor swimming pool and brand new Jacuzzi.
It is obvious that the Feversham arms has their guests well being in mind, they are the only retreat we know of that has a complimentary library for you to take advantage of, including timeless old novels and dvd’s available to watch – this adds to the charming character of the Feversham, and great to take advantage of whilst you sink back into the cosy furniture. Robes, towels and slippers are provided so you can lounge around the retreat at your leisure, enjoying the secluded alfresco pool area, spending a lazy afternoon paired with three-tier English tea and waitress service for refreshments such as detoxing smoothies and cleansing iced teas.
And the dining…
Food Lovers will not be disappointed here, expect to see well thought out menus heavily influenced by local tradition, with a strong commitment to local suppliers. The 5 course taster menu gives you the opportunity to sample North Yorkshire’s finest, including a great farmhouse cheese trolley and the best local game, beef and lamb from around the area. The 5 Course taster menu is £60 and the menu of the evening was Rabbit, Morteau Sausage, Biscotti, followed by crab, grain mustard and avocado. Our third course was Foie Gras with peanut, radish and lime, then our main course was Lamb, tomato, anchovy and olives. To finish we
gorged on spiced plums, mango with chilli and chocolate, hazelnut, milk. We also opted for the cheese trolley, which left it almost impossible to fit in the homemade chocolates, but we just about managed! Each meal offers a sommeliers wine selection, pairing the perfect fine wine with each course, this option of a selection of 6 wines is an additional £40.
The 5 course menu is not included with the overnight package but an allowance of £48 is, which may be used in the A La Carte Menu or towards the taster menu. For the men in our group, the highlight to the evening was the extensive fine whisky and cognac selection; it goes without saying that the staff’s education and attention to detail is exceptional, a nice way to finish off a delightful evening.
One thing that must be mentioned is the management’s attention to detail, nothing is too much hassle and everything, even down to the little things has been considered, such as the evening bed turning service. The staff are very well trained in offering the best service and will go above and beyond to make your stay a pleasure.
24 Seven cannot recommend this place enough, it’s not too small, just a secluded, comfy retreat in the heart of North Yorkshire. The Feversham Arms should be your next point of call when you feel the need to unwind- you will not be disappointed. Check out their ever-changing package offers…
